Strength and Conditioning

Strength and Conditioning, sometimes known as 'Physical Preparation', is a critical part of any personal training plan.

We devise exercises specific to our athletes' needs, based on technical analysis of their running, swimming and cycling.

We are huge advocates of strength and conditioning (S&C) at Maxwell Coaching. We provide personal S&C plans in conjunction with the monthly coaching, or we can provide standalone plans to supplement an athlete's own training plans. Personal plans are designed to done at home with a minimum of weights and other equipment but can be progressed to heavier weights if access to a gym is available. Exercises are progressed with an increase in repetitions and use of hand weights, medicine balls, kettle bells and barbells.

S&C plans and specific exercises are set after a full assessment of an athlete's capabilities and often after a running video analysis session.

1-2-1 or small group S&C sessions can really help with learning the exercises you have been set. We have a private gym, 'Purple Gym' with a range of weights, kettle bells, medicine balls, a barbell squat rack and resistance bands.

With our coaches unique experience and S&C qualifications, we can analyse technical elements of each athlete's running, cycling and swimming styles. This knowledge enables us to create a plan that builds on an athlete's particular strengths but also helps to rectify any technical mismatches, thereby helping to prevent injury and aiding recovery. We can also provide advice on mobility.
