We had another amazing weekend of racing and enjoy We had another amazing weekend of racing and enjoyment for our purple crew. As well as Tasha in the summer spine challenger north (see previous post), we had athletes all over challenging themselves and finishing with smiles.

@emma1dinger ran the Ultra Wales 50. This was a race to test the fear factor, the unknown and of course to nail down fuelling in mountains. Emma has been training so hard for UTMR, this race was everything we wanted it to be. Strong to the finish, fuelling nailed 🤩

@whitesam74 ran the Run through Morzine/Avoriaz 50km. Local (ish) for Sam, lovely trails and exactly what we wanted as a race aim before Sam takes a break to finish her Masters. Superb racing in hot weather, 20th lady was the icing on the cake 🤩

@becsterruns75 ran the Giants Head Marathon. Very new to trail running after racing well on roads for many years. Everything about these types of races was new. This race for Bec was all about the medal, but we think we’ve got her into trail running now 😁💜

Ben (newly returned to being coached by Michelle), also ran Giants Head marathon. Stepping stone to his first ultra in September, carefully building back after a knee injury.

@jonnygubb competed in the Gower SwimRun with his regular racing buddy. Bouncing off the back of ultra training, some speed work sharpened Jon up nicely for this with some specific swim/run bricks. Jon and his buddy won the event too 🤩

Brilliant weekend and we have loved the purple crew support this week. Onto the next races 💜

The biggest #medalmonday congratulations to coache The biggest #medalmonday congratulations to coached athlete @thismumrunsforfun.

A goal and focus for the whole year since summer spine last year. Tasha not only got to the start of the Summer Spine Challenger North (160 miles of the Penine Way) but finished 4th woman 🤩

In the proceeding week Tasha was so ill she didn’t work and spent two days in bed! We weren’t sure whether it was a good idea to even start, but I knew after the commitment to this race, that Tasha would start. We had a plan to watch the effort and heart rate at the start, even mostly hike.

First check of the tracker by coach, 6th female 😃 Tasha went on to finish 4th woman. Follow Tashas full story on her posts, but just to say: Never limit yourself, it’s not over until it’s over!

Great weekend of purple crew racing, community and Great weekend of purple crew racing, community and above all fun 💜

Coach Michelle @ultrarunningmichelle met @jennifertibbenham at the Hampshire Hoppit half marathon. Brilliantly organised trail event and super course. Jen did so well after coming back from injury, she raced hard and just missed the podium by seconds 🤩

Liz ran the Hampshire Hoppit marathon, met up with coach after for pictures. A solid morning on the trails for Liz, just nailing down the nutrition for the big one in July.

Dave @bigshanky ran the SDW100, a huge local fave for Dave. Quite warm but fast running conditions, with both male and female course records tumbling. For Dave he ran just over 21 hours, trialed some different fuels and got a bit hampered by a sore hip from halfway. Another solid day out as we build towards The Spine!

Mike took on the Broad Town 5 mile road race for his club. Warm afternoon conditions and race fatigue from Tuesday took their toll but a solid 31 minutes run 🤩

#purplecrew #medalmonday #athletenews
Congratulations to coached athlete Michael. 18:1 Congratulations to coached athlete Michael.

18:15 at Westbury 5km, not a PB but a best recent time and best on this course, so all good and progress is clear 🤩💪

Summer of speed continues!

Another super performance from Bec @becsterruns75 Another super performance from Bec @becsterruns75 over the weekend. Her first experience of running the Welsh Castles Relay for her club.

Bec finished 🥇 vet woman (over 35 and Bec is 50) on leg 5 (9.6 miles), and beat the club vet record for this leg. Training for a hilly trail marathon is paying off big time 🤩

If you’re looking for help with your running, especially as a veteran runner, Bec is coached by Michelle who has space for new athletes.

#purplecrew #welshcastlesrelay #marathonrunner
Huge congratulations to coached athlete @storm_hay Huge congratulations to coached athlete @storm_hayward for her 🥇 place (4th overall) at the Pembrokeshire Coastal 50km.

Storm is training for Lakeland 50 miles and we wanted a positive build up race to give her the confidence to race hard in July. We definitely found it!

Storm raced hard, fuelled well and found the pace for the hills we need for July. What a performance!

Looking for the confidence and support to race hard, Michelle has space for new athletes.

#medalmonday #ultrarunner #purplecrew #athletenews
Congratulations to the purple crew who ran the Ull Congratulations to the purple crew who ran the Ullswater 20.

@id_cameron was using the race as a stepping stone to Lakeland 50 in July. Practise fuelling, kit and pacing strategies. Iain enjoyed the race, but had a little fall which slightly dented the day.

Patrick loved the event. This was his goal race for the last few months. His longest event so far. Patrick has very limited time to train with his demanding job and young family, so just getting to the start is the achievement 🥳

Slowly slowly the road runner is loving the trail Slowly slowly the road runner is loving the trail 😁

Mission accomplished from the coach’s perspective 🤣🥳

@becsterruns75 ran the Mendips Challenge 20, loved the course, the hills and the views. Practising fuelling and aid stations (you don’t get those in a road race!)

Stepping stone to her first trail marathon in a couple of weeks. We will get her running ultras before she knows it 😁💜

Don’t be afraid of the heat but do be prepared ☀️🔥 Don’t be afraid of the heat but do be prepared ☀️🔥

- Be prepared mentally, if you get stressed and wound up your heart rate goes higher. Stay calm.
- Run with a hat and sunglasses, wet the hat fully before you leave for your run. Can also wet your tshirt/vest.
- Obviously ensure you have suncream on
- If you can, run/train early in the day, but definitely run fuelled.
- For longer runs or rides, fuel more as your body is using more fuel to cool you down. Stop in the shade if you feel you’re over hearing, this usually helps the body catch up with cooling processes and you’ll feel yourself sweating again. Then you should be ok to go again.
- Carry water/maybe with electrolytes too. For speed sessions, drink between reps.
- Have a spare bottle with you for pouring over your head in speed sessions and even other runs can help. Keeping your head, neck and wrists cool can help.
- The body will adapt so give it a chance but obviously don’t push through if you feel dizzy, sick or HR goes too high.

Nothing beats high fiving your kids in the finish Nothing beats high fiving your kids in the finish straight! 🤩

For @jennifertibbenham this was her motivation at the Keswick half marathon. A turbulent couple of months with a dodgy hamstring, but always this goal race kept the rehab motivation high. In fact Jen ran strongly, felt great, fuelled well and ran a similar time to last year. Now to build on that leg strength, rebalanced body and mind and focus on the summer races.

Injury, stress and management of your rehab and return to running are all big reasons to have a coach. An app can’t do this for you, an app doesn’t listen and adapt, an app doesn’t motivate and encourage, an app doesn’t say I believe in you.

Purple crew legend @bigshanky Dave ran the NDW50. Purple crew legend @bigshanky Dave ran the NDW50. Dave has run this race so many times, but it seemed a good fit this year in his race build to the Winter Spine.

The race plan, nothing outrageous, patience and fuelling well. Next up sdw100, another race Dave has completed several times, but close to home and another chance to nail fuelling, get stronger on the hills and keep building fitness.

Dave has been with us from the beginning, we’ve got through some rough races and experiences, and we’ve had some incredible performances. The journey is never easy and never straightforward 💜

Always great to meet an athlete whom I’ve coached Always great to meet an athlete whom I’ve coached but never met in person. Liz ran the ultra 51k race at the Maverick Cotswolds. Brilliant to arrive in time before my race to see Liz off on her start.

Focus of the day for Liz was fuelling, we are trying to up her intake per hour to keep running strong at Lakeland 100 this summer.

Mission accomplished, fantastic strong run and some new fuel to Liz to try. Onwards to July.

Congratulations to Tasha @thismumrunsforfun for he Congratulations to Tasha @thismumrunsforfun for her super 2nd lady at the Shires & Spires 55km ultra.

A very last minute chance to build some confidence after a bout of injury worry in the build to the summer spine. Tasha ran with a heavier pack than needed to build some strength and confidence with the weight and stormed through the field after a gentle start. Great running 🤩

Excited by London and keen to explore how you coul Excited by London and keen to explore how you could improve your marathon experience.

We have run London 10 times between us and many other U.K., US and European marathons. The photo is back in the year 2000 without gps watches, no HR monitors, no fancy energy gels and definitely no carbon! This was the first year of chip timing too, attached to our racing flats from memory.

We know the marathon, we know how to train for it, fuel for it, mentally prepare for it.

We support you all the way, juggle the plan over the inevitable hurdles, constantly reassure and chat through the process and outcomes.

We had to run these early marathons completely by feel, paper wrist band of paces or numbers written on our hand. We had to lap our Casio watches at each mile marker and only some had enough memory to store 26 laps. We then had to write these down in our paper training diaries to give to our coach post race.

We know how to run a marathon 💜 DM ‘Marathon’

💫 London Marathon, a race close to our hearts, we 💫 London Marathon, a race close to our hearts, we both ran our PBs in 1999, several championship starts and between us have run it 10 times since. Our kids have run the championship mini marathon for the last 6 years, our daughter running in the u18 girls this weekend 🤩

We had two lovely ladies racing, both trained really well, some heat training in the mix and positive energy leading to the race weekend.

@becsterruns75 ran a 10 minute PB for 3:14 🤩 After struggling in the heat of Berlin last September, we added heat training in the last block. Nothing fancy just the basics, staying consistent, keeping an eye on fatigue. Really pleased for Bec, incredible pacing and the smile says it all 💜

Abi had a good final training block, but some life stress and illness in early blocks. Abi also dabbled with heat training but something felt off the last week. Still ran a fabulous time of 3:30, only 5 mins off her best time. Plenty more to come from Abi 🤩💜

Good mix of races this weekend for our purple crew Good mix of races this weekend for our purple crew, and a few challenges battled 💪

@jonnygubb ran the SDW50, his first foray over the distance, with a couple of 50k, triathlon and swimrun as his previous experience. Solid training blocks and fuelling. Coach predicted sub 10, Jon ran 9:46 🥳

@fionaslevinb ran the Brighton trail marathon with the last 10km joining in with the road marathon on the sea front. Unfortunately Fiona woke up feeling a bit rough pre race, so it was a fun day out rather than a race but good time on feet.

@storm_hayward ran the Lakeland 50km, down graded to 48km and less vert due to the weather. Super fast race due to the British mountain champs, Storm ran superbly and kept her cool in a stacked field.

We also had Emma and Kat racing at the Brighton Marathon. Tough races for both for various pre race reasons, but a marathon is a marathon is a marathon, they are never easy and many positives to take away.

Catch up news from our purple crew over the last E Catch up news from our purple crew over the last Easter two weeks 💫

@thismumrunsforfun ran the Bowum 30. Just a confidence boost, time on feet run as we build to the Spine Challenger North.

@jennifertibbenham ran the Fleet half marathon. Last minute decision to start after struggling with an injury, but still a super 1:32 off limited training.

@stephanie_j_james took on the Jurassic Coast Challenge over 3 days, running a marathon+ each day. Steph finished first female overall, getting stronger each day and nailing her fuelling 💪

We have space for new athletes to join our purple crew 💜

#purplecrew #athletenews
Congratulations to coached athlete Mike for comple Congratulations to coached athlete Mike for completing the super six half marathons at the Berlin Half Marathon and receiving his gong of a medal!

No PB for Mike at Berlin but a consistent 85 minutes after a few weeks of illness, a time which is still incredible given Mike was struggling to break 90 minutes only 2 years ago.

Time for a rest, some summer speed and build to an autumn race 😃
True if everything in life is perfect, an app or o True if everything in life is perfect, an app or online training plan can work.

Many athletes we now coach didn’t have an issue with showing up, but they became disillusioned by a plan that didn’t adjust when life threw hurdles.

Coaching apps do not understand context. How tired are you? How stressed are you (life load, work load and training load)? How much driving around to kids clubs you’ve had to do this week.

Being coached by me isn’t just getting a plan, it’s about having your best fan listening, it’s about unlimited training adjustments when life has a wobble, it’s about progress and feedback, it’s that reality that taking a step back and not doing that race is the right thing to do.

Quick results are exciting, but they aren’t great for the long game. Always the bigger outlook.

Join me and our purple crew to find your unlimited support and start your journey 💜
